Methylene blue is a synthetic compound used as both a vibrant dye (in histology/textiles) and a medical drug. It is FDA-approved to treat methemoglobinemia (a blood disorder) and acts as an antioxidant that enhances mitochondrial efficiency, leading to its, often unregulated, use as a cognitive-boosting “nootropic” supplement.
